From The Indianapolis Star, Monday, 9 December 1912: Despite the city ordinance prohibiting children under age 14 from attending moving pictures except when accompanied by a parent, guardian or someone over the age of 21 authorized by a parent, there was little trouble finding underage children, without escorts at the movie houses yesterday. Certificates issued by the picture show men have been signed by the parent with a blank space for the name of the escort to be designated by the parent. The theater manager merely fills in his name and steps inside the door of the movie house with the child. Also the picture shows are getting around the Sunday closing law by saying that a part of the ticket money for the Sunday shows will go to charity.
