IRVINGTON — Before J.R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series dominated the airwaves with its saga of royal families fighting for power, Shakespeare dramatized the very real, very bloody, struggle for the English crown. Spanning eight plays and more than one hundred years, EclecticPond Theatre Company (ETC) now presents his works chronicling the Wars of the Roses in a fashion rarely, if ever done: all together.
Over the course of four weekends, ETC will present all eight plays — cut down to one action-packed hour each — culminating in one final performance of all eight shows on the same day! And, all the roles will be performed by just eight actors.
Astonishingly ambitious and maybe even slightly insane, ETC rounds out its third season with this festival of histories. Filled with murder and deceit, humor and tragedy, witness the vain Richard II, the usurping Henry IV, the heroic Henry V, the ineffectual Henry VI, and the supremely villainous Richard III, as one by one they rise and fall from power.
Performances run from June 6 to June 28. Tickets are $10 a show, but a “Festival Pass” can be purchased for $40. With the pass one can see all eight shows in any order, or come to the final all-day performance.
