Warren Branch Celebrates 40th Anniversary

INDIANAPOLIS — The entire community is invited to celebrate 40 years of service at the Warren Branch Library on May 10 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. with a variety of family activities, including a magic show, animal show, face painting and games. Representatives from the Indianapolis Fire Department and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department will be on hand for show and tell sessions. In addition, there will be an information fair featuring area organizations. The first 200 people to arrive will receive a commemorative tote bag. The library is located at 9701 E. 21st St.


Martin Univ. Commencement Set for May 10

INDIANAPOLIS — Commencement exercises for the 2014 graduating class at Martin University have been set for Saturday, May 10 at noon. The School’s 45th commencement is scheduled in the Father Boniface Hardin Gathertorium and is open to the public. Forty-five students will receive bachelor’s degrees in assorted fields, while 15 will be awarded master’s degrees, all but three in community psychology. An honorary doctorate will be presented to Benjamin Johnson, who will deliver the commencement address. Mr. Johnson is an administrative pioneer in Indianapolis Public Schools and a former principal at John Marshall High School in Indianapolis.
An honorary doctorate also will be presented to Frederick Alonza Kelly, who was the Dean of Students at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis for 42 years before his retirement in 2011.

Tech Centennial Museum Hours Announced
INDIANAPOLIS — The Tech Centennial Museum, located on the 2nd floor of the Arsenal (Room 8), is alive and well and will now have regular open hours. No appointment is necessary to visit the museum on the 1st and 3rd Fridays and the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month. Friday hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesday hours are 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. For appointments to visit the museum outside the regular schedule, contact Beth Aubrey Meyer at (317) 796-7743.
Volunteers are needed to staff the museum. E-mail Beth (meyerb@myips.org) or call her to volunteer. The museum will be open as follows for the next several months: May 13, 16, 27; June 6, 10, 14 (Alumni Day), 20, 24; July 8, 18, 22.


New Food Pantry in Lawrence Twp.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Lawrence Township Trustee and the Lawrence Township Hunger Coalition, Inc. are announcing the construction of a new food pantry and announcing its latest effort to help Lawrence Township families in need of food assistance on May 9.
The pantry will be constructed at 7107 Pendleton Pike, between Englewood Drive and Elmhurst. The pantry will be affiliated with Gleaners Food Bank. For more information about the Office of the Lawrence Township Trustee visit the Trustee’s website at www.lawrencetownshiptrustee.org.


Mayor’s Veterans Family Appreciation Day May 17

INDIANAPOLIS — Mayor Greg Ballard will welcome Marion County area veterans and their families at the Mayor’s Veterans Family Appreciation Day on May 17 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Garfield Park, 2345 Pagoda Dr.
The day’s events will include First Annual VSCMC Classic Car Show, free picnic and fish fry and plenty of free parking. Information on veterans benefits will be available.  The VSCMC classic car show will be co-located together with the picnic and fish fry.
Veterans and their families are invited to attend the free event.
