• Southeast Community Services Food Pantry is located 924 Shelby St near the Fountain Square Area. They are open Monday 2 p.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday (Produce Day) noon-2 p.m., and Thursday 3 p.m.-5:30 p.m. There are no ID or Zip Code restrictions. • IACS (Indianapolis Animal Care Services) Community Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 10 from noon-5 p.m.  at the new facility located at 5001 E. Raymond.There will be trainers, community resources, microchipping, pet education and more. If you’re planning to bring your pet for vaccinations, please bring any previous vaccine records/history you have. This will help our medical team determine whether your pet needs a 1-year or 3-year rabies vaccine and make the clinic run as smoothly as possible.
• There will be an open house celebrating the 10th St. Emerging Cultural District at the Emerson Theatre on Saturday, Oct.  10 from 4-7 p.m. Everyone is invited to the party.
• Citizens Energy Group will hold a Community Resource Day on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at 2020 N. Meridian St.a free, family-friendly day connecting our neighbors with helpful resources from organizations across Central Indiana. Visitors can connect with community organizations, learn about utility assistance and energy-saving programs, enjoy activities for kids and more. We’ll also have free food vouchers for the first 500 visitors and backpacks and school supplies available while supplies last.
• Makwolf Exhibit Opening Reception: INDIVIDUATION: The Blackening is the first solo exhibition of artist Makwolf, which presents a new body of mixed-media works that explore ancestral memory, identity, and spiritual concepts through an Afrocentric lens. Inspired by Carl Jung’s concept of individuation, the exhibition reflects Makwolf’s journey of returning to his authentic self through spiritual awakening, ancestral remebrance, and creative purpose. The exhibition opens Saturday, Oct. 3 rom 4-9 p.m. at the Phoenix Cultural Centre, 705 N. Illinois St. Admission is free.
• First Friday is Oct. 2, and that means a lot of activities in the arty spots around town from 6-9 p.m. At the Harrison Center. 1505 N. Delaware, there are six new shows, plus a taste of the 2026 Proof Lit Fest in the gym. October is Filipino American History Month, and there will be a group show LAHI in the Speck Gallery, highlighting Filipino American Stories in Indiana. The Irvington business corridor along East Washington St. will also celebrate First Friday with specials, openings, and music. The Stutz building will also have open studios from 5-9 p.m. at 1010 Capitol Ave.
• The deadline to register to vote is Monday, Oct. 5. You can check to see if you are registered, or to register online at indianavoters.org. You can also apply to vote by mail at the same site, but you have to do so by Oct. 22. Early voting begins Tuesday, Oct. 6 and continues until noon on Monday, Nov. 2. The midterm elections will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3.
