New Deputy Mayor for Neighborhoods Announced

INDIANAPOLIS — Recently, Mayor Joe Hogsett announced that Jordan Gathers will serve as Deputy Mayor for Neighborhoods for the City of Indianapolis. The appointment was effective Friday, May 1. Gathers most recently served as Executive Director of Venues, Parks & Arts for the City of South Bend, where he led the city’s expansive parks system, cultural venues, and public spaces. He replaces former Deputy Mayor for Neighborhood Engagement, Judith B. Thomas, who moved on to lead the Indy Arts Council.
The Deputy Mayor for Neighborhoods (or Neighborhood Engagement) in Indianapolis acts as the primary liaison between the Mayor’s office and local communities, focusing on improving quality of life, fostering engagement, and coordinating city services. They oversee neighborhood advocates, address resident concerns regarding development, and facilitate community-centered initiatives.
