INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Repertory Theatre shares a fresh look at the poignant classic The Glass Menagerie by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tennessee Williams. Directed by James Still, the drama runs March 11 – April 6 on the Janet Allen Stage.
Originally produced in Chicago in the mid 1940s, The Glass Menagerie was championed by critics and then won the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award as Best American Play and ran for a year and a half on Broadway. The play has since had worldwide acclaim and seven more Broadway productions.
Looking back at his own family with bittersweet tenderness, Tennessee Williams probes the depths of inescapable memory. The story follows faded Southern belle Amanda, and her two adult children, the painfully shy Laura and the restless poet Tom, as they search for hope and escape while living in their cramped apartment. Many productions of The Glass Menagerie have focused on references to Laura’s physical disability, and in IRT’s version, James Still and IRT Access Consultant Talleri McRae have worked to broaden this approach within the play.
Tickets are available now for The Glass Menagerie. The Indiana Repertory Theatre, is located at 140 W. Washington Street. Tickets and a performance schedule is available at IRTLive.com. Tickets start at $25.
