100 Years Ago this Week: Feb. 7-14

From The Indianapolis News, Saturday, February 7, 1914: North side citizens have formed an alliance in response to the series of burglaries that have been occurring in their part of the city. When a homeowner hears a noise indicating a burglar is at work, the homeowner arms himself and telephones his neighbors. Responding to the call, the neighborhood men take up their arms and quickly proceed to the burglarized house, surrounding it. While Mr. and Mrs. George J. Marott were away from their home Thursday evening, their maid heard breaking glass in the kitchen. Suspecting a burglar, she summoned Dr. Frank Abbett who, in accordance with the neighborhood alliance, armed himself and hurried to the Marott home where he was joined by George Rubens. The men entered the home only to find that the intruder had fled.
