INDIANAPOLIS — Toni Stone (the first female professional baseball player) from an early age excelled at all sports, even dropping out of High School at age 16 to pursue her dream of playing professional baseball. Written by award-winning playwright Lydia R. Diamond, the show will run Sept. 19-Oct. 6 at the theatre, 627 Mass Ave. Tickets are $25-$30 and available online at indydistricttheatre.com
She got that opportunity in Indianapolis, Indiana playing for The Clowns Negro baseball team. Not only did she face the harsh segregation and racism of the times, she was often shunned and belittled by her own coaches and teammates.
