Circle Up Indy Initiative to Address Housing Affordability

INDIANAPOLIS — Circle Up Indy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting peace and creating positive change in the community, is launching a new innovative initiative through Rising Evolution. Rising Evolution is Circle Up Indy’s new groundbreaking initiative, which focuses on constructing affordable housing developments using 3D technology.
Circle Up Indy started a $2.6 million campaign for Rising Evolution to obtain two mobile 3D machines made by Apis Cor to build affordable homes. Circle Up Indy is one of nearly a dozen companies globally seeking to acquire the highly sought-after machine. The mobile 3D device, the first of its kind, will weigh less than the size of a traditional home printing machine utilizing concrete mixture technology, allowing a home to be built in 24 hours. Circle Up Indy’s bold goal is to build 2,000 homes across Indianapolis within the next two years once the machines are acquired.
According to Homelight, the national average to build a home in 2023 is around $281,000, which does not include land. Once a house is made with the 3-D machine from Apis Cor, it will cost between $120,000 to $150,000 to purchase. Financial partners are investing in this initiative by helping individuals and families finance one of these homes, including providing down payment assistance. In addition, constructing a home with this innovative mobile 3D machine is faster, more sustainable and more cost effective than traditional construction methods, adding more affordable homes to the market in a shorter time.
Through this project, Circle Up Indy plans to provide job opportunities to individuals aged 15 and above, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, with starting pay ranging from $25 to $40 per hour, depending on experience and skill level. Additionally, workers will be trained to use the mobile 3D machine, which will position Circle Up Indy staff to provide training for individuals to get certificated in 3D printing.
