INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) recently announced that IMPD Public Affairs Lt. Shane Foley has graduated from the 284th FBI National Academy Session.
The FBI National Academy is a professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement managers nominated by their agency heads because of demonstrated leadership qualities. The 10-week program — which provides coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science — serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide (FBI.gov).
Lieutenant Shane Foley is a 16-year veteran of IMPD. He is currently assigned as the supervisor for the Public Affairs Office. Before his promotion to lieutenant, he served as a sergeant in recruit training and was a field sergeant on East District middle shift. As a patrol officer, he was assigned to East District middle shift. While there he served on the East District Crime Reduction Team and was assigned as one of the first strategic investigation officers for IMPD.
Lt. Foley is a senior instructor, in Fair and Impartial Policing, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design practitioner, and serves on the Event Response Group. Lt. Foley proudly served as a mentor to recruit officers for years. Lt. Foley has been awarded the Medal of Merit and a Unit Citation during his career.
