• The Benton House is hosting the Egg-stravaganza on Saturday, April 16 from 10-11 a.m. at the Benton House grounds, 312 S. Downey Ave. The hunting begins promptly at 10 a.m., and kids can hunt for treat-filled eggs hidden in the historic gardens. Kids can also pose with the Easter Bunny and enjoy fun activities. Admission is free, but donations are always welcome.
• Heads up bird people: Construction is underway at Indy Parks at the Ornithology Center, 6515 Delong Rd. They are building a parking lot, which may force them to close the building temporarily until May. They are also building a flight enclosure for resident Turkey Vulture Matilda so she can spread her wings to the full 6-foot wing span. Call the center at 317-327-BIRD or check them out on Facebook under “ornithology center” for updates on closures.
• The Arts for Lawrence Visual Arts Center Grand Re-Opening will be held on Friday, April 15 from 6-9 p.m. at the building, 8970 Otis Ave. Tour the gallery, enjoy refreshments, and sign up for some classes while you’re there.
• Save the date: The Dept. of Metro Development will hold a Community Visioning Open House about the former Black Mountain brownfields site at 3500 E. Washington St. on Thursday, April 28 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The former 12.4 acre site is getting cleaned up and will soon be ready for redevelopment. Tours of the site and refreshments will be available. Parking will be available at the Save-A-Lot lot at 3736 E. Washington St. (Sherman and E. Washington) next to the site.
• Beech Grove City Hall will be closed in observance of Good Friday on Friday, April 15.
• Garfield Park Conservatory will host the Central Indiana Orchid Society’s annual Orchid Show on Saturday, April 23 an Sunday, April 24. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. Admission is $5 per person or $12 per family (2 adults maximum). Vendors will be on hand selling orchids.
