INDIANAPOLIS — The 6th annual “Friends of the Poor” Walk to benefit those served by the all-volunteer Society of St. Vincent de Paul once again set new records. The number of walkers was 122 (an 80 percent increase over the 2012 event) and the funds raised from the walk were a total of $16,345 (an increase of more than 40 percent over last year).
The walk, held this year on September 28 at Washington Park, benefits the neediest citizens. One hundred percent of the money raised goes to aid those who receive help from the Society’s food pantry, the distribution center (household goods, appliances, clothing, etc.) and the Beggars for the Poor Ministry.
Persons who were not able to walk had the opportunity to donate online to a virtual walker and select which area of Indianapolis (East, West, North, or South) they wished their donations to be applied.
