From The Indianapolis Star, Wednesday, December 21, 1921: Santa will spread the spirit of joy around Indianapolis this Christmas through the efforts of the Salvation Army and a regiment of social relief workers, local business clubs, and social organizations. Felicitations and merriment will pervade every charitable institution within the city’s boundaries, and the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion will make Christmas more cheerful for hospitalized ex-servicemen with gifts of cigars, cigarettes, fruits, and candy. A Christmas tree, decorated with a cross of electric lights, will be the center of a Christmas celebration of carols and music at College Ave. and 42nd St. Santa Claus will distribute gifts at a children’s Christmas party at the Madden-Nottingham American Legion Post, and newsboys, messenger boys, and other boys who work at night will be entertained with a Christmas party at the YMCA.
