INDIANAPOLIS — PATTERN, a pillar for fashion, culture, art and music within the Indianapolis community, a are seeking photo submissions for Cerulean, a winter-focused photography exhibition, opening Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Paradox. PATTERN will select 15 to 20 local Indianapolis-based photographers to showcase their unique perspectives captured from behind the lens. This exhibit will be viewable to the public opening night and through Feb. 11, 2022, by appointment only.
Cerulean will explore the different visual stories that can be told with the use of a single color. Colors go beyond their shade, hue and intensity, symbolizing many things such as a feeling, a state of mind or a state of being. Shades of blue are no exception, conveying feelings of sadness, serenity, coldness, trust, safety and so much more. Through the use of editorial fashion photography and portraiture, participants are asked to capture the feelings being communicated through this color for the world to experience.
In order to be considered for this exhibit, interested individuals should submit three to five high-resolution images to Khaila King at khaila.king@patternindy.com by Jan. 1, 2022. Each submission must include the following information:
• The image title and the year the shot was taken
• A 50-to-75-word bio providing an overview of the photographer
• A 50-to-75-word description about each image that has been submitted
• The pricing of each image submitted is only required in the case that the participant is interested in offering their image for sale
Individuals, who have proposed their images for this event, can expect to receive notification that their work has been accepted or declined within 24 hours of submission. When these works are selected, each participant is expected to have their image ready to hang printed, framed and wired. Each image must be delivered to Khaila King by Jan. 18, 2022.
The featured artists selected for this opportunity may offer their works up for purchase by viewers throughout the full length of the Cerulean exhibit. These images will be expected to remain within the gallery from opening to closing night, and each artist is expected to pick up any unsold images between Feb. 11-13, 2022. If a work is sold, a 30% commission will be charged to the artist to ensure PATTERN is reimbursed for funds used to execute the show. Photographers are not required to sell their work.
Following the conclusion of the exhibit, the displayed photographs will be published in a photography zine, made purchasable through the PATTERN website and accessible online via ISSUU.
