Veterans to Be Honored November 11

Veterans Day will be held Thursday, November 11 with remembrances and celebrations throughout the city. The Veterans Day Council of Indianapolis will host a memorial service and parade beginning at 11 a.m. at the Indiana War Memorial on the north steps (weather permitting). The service will be followed by a Veterans Day Parade beginning at Michigan St. and Pennsylvania.
The Samuel Bryan Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution invites the public to join them along with other Beech Grove entities for the Veterans’ Day Remembrance Ceremony on November 11 at 11:00 am in front of the Beech Grove city building on 806 Main St. Mayor Dennis Buckley of Beech Grove and Pastor Dan Bailey, Chair of the Mayor’s Faith Based Round Table, will lead the recognition ceremony, and Samuel Bryan Chapter Regent Patricia Moy will guide a special presentation of the 100th Anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.
The Beech Grove Veterans’ Day event will include placing wreaths and reading the names of those veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice. A special presentation of the ringing of a bell and rose presentation in honor of “those soldiers known only to God” will also be part of the program. After the solemn recognition of veterans, there will be a small reception at the American Legion Post #276 located on 327 Main Street, hosted by the American Legion Auxiliary.
The Samuel Bryan Chapter is also beginning their Vietnam Veterans Banner sale to remember those that served in Vietnam. The banners will be displayed on Beech Grove city light posts located on Main Street starting in March of 2022 to recognize the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam Conflict.
A limited number of banners will be available, and submissions will be on a first come, first served basis. However, a waiting list for subsequent years will be created as the request are received.
The cost for each Banner is $125, plus an original photo 8 x 10 (preferred) or 5 x 7 is needed that will be returned when banners are taken down and given to the purchaser. Digital photos will not be accepted. Corporate donations will also be accepted for a purchase of a banner.
