• We were very sad to hear the news that Wilma Peacock, a long-standing advertiser and dear friend to the Weekly View, passed away on Oct. 5. Wilma was a wonderful Realtor and helped many people find their perfect home. She also had lots of stories to tell about Indianapolis, especially Fountain Square and the east side, where she was a fixture in the community. She will be missed by many people, especially her friends and many nieces and nephews.
• There will be a Halloween party at Marion County Fairgrounds from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. Families are invited to enjoy Halloween activities like face painting, games, and pumpkin painting. Admission is $5 per carload. The fairgrounds are located on Fisher Rd. and E. Troy Ave. on the southeast side.
• Blood supplies are critically low, and the Red Cross needs donors as soon as possible. Visit redcrossblood.org to find a blood drive or make an appointment for a donation.
• The 2021 Spirit & Place Festival will run Nov. 4-14 at various venues throughout the city. This year’s theme is “Change” and embraces discussions about the variety of changes taking place in our world. On the east side, check out the exhibit “The Memory Keepers,” presented in the 201 Studio at 201 S. Rural Ave. on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 4-7 p.m. The exhibit and community conversation archives the history of the Twin Aire neighborhood, which is currently undergoing significant changes due to the new Criminal Justice Center. Admission is free. Several other events will take place at Circle City Industrial Complex, the Kan-Kan, and other east side venues. • Irvington Vinyl & Books, 9 S. Johnson, will host a sticker-making activities and a DJ on Friday, Nov. 5 from 5-9 p.m. Admission is free and is open to the public.
• Arts for Lawrence is hosting Bardfest’s production of Macbeth through Oct. 30. Agape Theatre Company, a youth performance troupe, gives an interesting interpretation to Shakespeare’s story of ambition. Shows are at the Theater at the Fort on Oct. 28, 29, and 30 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25. Visit artsforlawrence.org for more information and to reserve seats.
• George W. Julian School 57 at the corner of Ritter and East Washington St. is holding a virtual open house Friday, Oct. 29 from noon-1 p.m. as part of IPS’s Showcase of Schools. Visit www.myips.org and check out the Showcase link.
• Did you know Indiana has a digital state archive that you can peruse on your computer? And that they have Twitter and Facebook accounts? Visit in.gov/iara/services-for-public/ for the digital archives, or just Google Indiana State Archives. Their Facebook account is under Indiana Archives and Records Administration and has lots of great photos and info. If you’re a history buff, you’ll spend hours digging through these archives.
