INDIANAPOLIS — The Dept. of Public Works has announced that the westbound lane of Market Street from Illinois to Monument Circle has closed as work begins on the first phase of a streetscape improvement project. The northbound, eastern-most lane of Illinois at the Market St. intersection is also closed to traffic. The first phase of the West Market Street project is expected to be complete by the end of the year. The project is part of the city’s vision to renovate Monument Circle and its various “spoke” streets to feature a seamless roadway and sidewalk paver system.
In addition to work on Market Street, the city is also in the process of patching, milling, and resurfacing work south of the Circle. South St. from West to Capitol, McCarty Street from West to Capitol, Capitol from McCarty to South St., and Missouri St. from I-70 to South St. will be affected by this work through early November.
