• COVID-19 testing is in short supply at local pharmacies. The state offers free testing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the IndyCar parking lot at 4551 W. 16th St. in Speedway from noon-8 p.m. The IMS also offers the Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson vaccines FREE during the same period. The program will continue through Oct. 30.
• The state of Indiana’s vaccination rate has climbed slightly to just over 55%, which is still low. To get back to “normal” we’ll have to do better! The vaccines help protect you and those closest to you from getting the virus, and if you do contract COVID, to avoid hospitalization (only about 1% of people currently hospitalized with the virus are vaccinated). To get info on how to get your FREE vaccination, visit ourshot.in.gov or call 211.
• Great work by Indianapolis Police Dept., Lawrence Police Dept. and the brave victims for coming forward to catch the serial rapist terrorizing older women in Indianapolis. On Sept. 21, authorities announced they got him. Victims of sexual assault many times do not come forward, making it difficult to prosecute these cases. If you or someone you know has been the victim of sexual violence, please call 911 immediately. Support is available to all survivors; call IMPD Victim Assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 317-327-3811. There are many resources available to help.
• The Woodruff Place Flea Market will be held Saturday, Oct. 2 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. throughout the Woodruff Place neighborhood (10th to Michigan, East to West Woodruff Place). This is THE flea market of the east side, with lots of treasures to be found!
