• SHE Event Indy will host SHE. Xperience on Friday, July 16 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lugar Plaza in downtown Indianapolis. This free marketplace event will feature more than 40 minority-owned small businesses and is in partnership with the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC).
• Market on the Pennsy will be held on Saturday, July 17 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 5529 Bonna Ave. Dozens of vintage, handmade, and art vendors will be on hand.
• The Benton House Book Sale will be held July 16 from 5-8 p.m., July 17 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., July 18 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Benton House, 312 S. Downey Ave. Sunday is Bag Day, when you can get a whole plastic grocery bag of books for only $5. The sale is in the parking lot. Proceeds go to support the maintenance of the historic home.
• There will be a garden tour of the Rivoli Park Labyrinth on Sunday, July 18 at 2 p.m. The park is located at 943 N. Kealing Ave.
• Construction has begun on the long-awaited Broad Ripple Park family center. The new center will include upgraded fitness areas, group meeting space, and a health cline operated by Community Health Network. The project will be completed by the end of 2022.
• The 1st Annual Solidarity Festival will take place on Saturday, July 17 from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. The event will feature music, dancing and food. The event will take place at Belmont Beach, a community project located at the site of the Emrichsville Dam ruins just south of 16th Street on the west bank of White River. Belmont Beach describes a historic recreation beach used by black residents during the era of segregation. The vision is to celebrate Black and Latino culture and create a lasting relationship and collaboration between the two communities.
• Meals on Wheels is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and recently announced a generous grant from United Way to help fulfill their mission of feeding those with chronic medical conditions with healthy foods tailored to their needs. Last year, they delivered 428,913 meals, and 14,000 meal boxes throughout the pandemic. Last year they saw a 160% increase in requests for financial assistance.
• Fridays at the Fort is a twice a month concert series offering a different performer each Friday between 6-9 p.m. at the Fort Ben Cultural Campus, 8920 Otis Ave. Queen Delphine and the Crown Jewels will be on stage Friday, July 16, and Heartstone Crossing on July 30.
