Josef Newgarden and Team Penske finally came through with a well earned victory at Mid Ohio. The 29-year-old Tennessean dominated the previous two races only to have a mechanical failure rob him of a victory with just a few laps to go in each race. His luck finally held at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Newgarden did it all. He won the pole as he had in the previous two races, and led the most laps as he had in the previous two races. This time, however, he took the checkered flag.
Marcus Ericsson driving for Ganassi Honda was second. Alex Palou, the current points leader, was third driving for Ganassi. Scott Dixon, yet another Ganassi driver, was fourth. Alexander Rossi driving for Andretti MotorSports was fifth. Romain Grosjean finished seventh and has a strong hold on IndyCar Rookie of the Year at this point. Will Power finished twenty fifth and last — thus continuing his run of bad luck in 2021.
There aren’t any more races in July. The next race will be on August 8. The Big Machine Music City Grand Prix will be run on a street circuit in Nashville. This Race should be a whole lot of fun.
Calderon Test for Foyt Racing
This last Saturday, July 3, Tatiana Calderon, a twenty-eight-year-old Columbian racer, tested at Mid Ohio for The A.J. Foyt Racing Team. Calderon is a Formula 1 test driver for Alfa Romeo. It’s known that the IndyCar Series would like to find a female driver who could be a competitive force in the series. Apparently Calderon impressed observers with her driving skills. We’ll have to see how this plays out.
