Council Lifts Some Restrictions

The Indianapolis Marion County Council has voted to remove some of the restrictions placed on business and public gatherings. This is good news for Indianapolis Indians fans, the Indy Fuel and Indy Eleven. Also for the summer and fall festivals, Little League baseball and other youth summer sports. It also means the restaurants, taverns, and bars can start getting back to normal . . .if they can find the help. But that’s another issue.
It’s been a really sad and depressing year with isolation, job loss, and the loss of many relatives and friends. We all want to get back to having a normal life and having a little fun. I know I do. But it isn’t that easy. Worldwide the pandemic is still raging. It’s not going to go away just because we think it’s inconvenient or politically motivated. It is still going to require hard work and common sense — with common sense being in very short  supply these days
We have a vaccine that seems to be effective and that is certainly a good start but there is still a long way to. I want my grandkids to return to a normal life, believe me. I want us all to return to a normal life. Hating each other isn’t the way to go. We have to work together and respect each other. Saying that, however, I am happy that Council acted on the rules.

Detroit Chevy IndyCar Grand Prix at Belle Isle

The IndyCar lads will gather at Belle Isle in the Detroit River for a two day double-header event this coming Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th. Perhaps the most significant turn of events is  as of this writing Indy 500 Helio Castroneves won’t be driving in the event. The 4 time Indy 500 champ hoped his recent win would lead to a ride for the rest of the season, but that hasn’t been the case, so far. Helio was driving a Meyer Shank owned Honda at Indy and will drive it 4 more times during the season. Meyer Shank has no plans to enter the car in any other events.
At this point Alex Palou driving for Ganassi Racing is the point leader in the championship; he won the first race at St. Petersburg and finished second at Indy. He has 248 points. His teammate Scott Dixon is right behind with 211, but has yet to win a race. There have been six races and six different winners. No team Penske car has yet to win this season. This may change this weekend, we’ll see.
Marcus Ericsson is saying that some top ranked Formula 1 drivers are looking at the IndyCar series as a possible landing place should they decide to leave the F1 series. In the last few years Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have made the series sort of a one trick pony. Romain Grosjean joined Dale Coyne this season but is just driving the road courses. Grosjean scored a second at the Indy Grand Prix last month. This could be just talk but then again who knows?
