• Irvingtonian Charlotte Ottinger will be on Nelson Price’s radio show “Hoosier History Live” on WICR 88.7 on March 13 at noon-1 p.m. to talk about Madge Oberholtzer, the Irvington woman killed by D.C. Stephenson. Charlotte’s book about Madge will be coming out in October. Tune in and ask questions!
• Northeastside resident Max Siegel has been elected Vice Chairman of the Martin University Board of Trustees. Siegel is CEO of USA Track & Field and is also the owner of RevRacing where he operates NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity Program.
• In celebration of Music in our Schools Month, Warren Central’s chapter of Tri-M Music Honor Society is hosting a Toiletries Drive to benefit the Moorhead Community Resource Center. Until March 22, new, unused toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc.) can be deposited in the donation bins at the high school at the main office, 9500 E. 16th St. There will be a distribution night for these products at MCRC on Wednesday, March 24th, from 5-7 p.m. Items needed include body wash, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, feminine hygiene products, brushes, combs, shampoo and conditioner, disposable razors and shaving cream, and lip balm.
• Scecina Memorial High School is collecting canned food for its food drive. Drop off donations at Steer-In at 5130 E. 10th St.
• Garfield Park Conservatory is hosting “Gnomes on the Big Screen” on March 20-April 11 during opening hours. Check out garden gnomes in the tropical conservatory depicting scenes from classic movies. All visitors must purchase timed tickets in advance at www.garfieldgardensconservatory.org or by calling 317-327-7183. Tickets are $4 per person.
• The Indiana Department of Transportation has began unveiling its “Hoosier Hoops Highway” signs in advance of a busy basketball month in Indiana, with the Big Ten, Horizon League and NCAA tournaments being hosted in the Hoosier State. Games will be played throughout Indiana in basketball arenas in Indianapolis, Evansville, West Lafayette and Bloomington. INDOT is placing temporary signs on highways leading to host cities to commemorate the historic month and help guide fans and teams. Let’s welcome our guests with some Hoosier hospitality!
