General Sports News

Indiana University Head Football Coach Tom Allen has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year. Allen guided the Hoosiers to a 6-1 record and a top ten ranking in all the major polls. For the first time since 1925, the Old Oaken Bucket game was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. IU won last year and currently has possession of the historic trophy. Hopefully 2021 will see the series back on track.
Two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Juan Pablo Montoya will retire on the track in 2021 to compete in the 500 mile race. The 45-year-old Columbian will drive a Dallara Honda for the Arrow McLaren team. Montoya last drove at Indy in 2017.
The 2021 Rose Bowl Game will be played in Texas due to COVID-19 concerns in Southern California. The Independence Bowl in Louisiana has been canceled due to lack of available teams.
There is a hot rumor that Philadelphia Eagle quarterback Carson Wenz wants to come to Indianapolis so he can play for his former mentor Frank Reich. The former number one draft pick has been benched due to ineffectiveness and is listed behind rookie Jalen Hunt in the Eagle depth chart. Wenz was coached by Reich as a rookie and bonded with him. This probably isn’t possible due to Wenz’s high-priced contract and what the Eagles would want for him.
Most of you saw the second Texans game last Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Once again it came down to the Colts recovering a Houston fumble at the end of the game to seal the victory. DeShaun Watson must think he is cursed by the Colts somehow. The Colts travel to Pittsburgh to play the Steelers this coming Sunday. The Horseshoe has lost to the Steelers six straight times since 2006. Let’s hope they break the streak.

Santa is Ready to Go

Despite some rumors to the contrary, Santa Claus has officially announced that he WILL be in the driver’s seat of his sled come Christmas Eve. The report was that the jolly old elf had some serious foot issues to deal with but St. Nick assures  me that his feet are now fine and he is ready to go!
The sled has been totally refurbished and is ready to make the 24-hour trek. The reindeer have been in serious training and are in the best shape of their lives. Rudolph says that everything’s a go.
Oh BTW, Mrs. Claus says leave carrots and hot coffee for her hubby rather than milk and cookies. They are healthier.
