• All Indianapolis Public Library locations except Central Library will hold normal hours on Wednesday, November 25. Central Library will close one hour early, at 5:00pm on that day. All locations will be closed on Thursday, November 26 in observance of Thanksgiving Day.
• All post offices, BMV, state, local, and federal buildings will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. Trash pickup and recycling will not be picked up on Thursday, but on Friday. Friday pickup will be on Saturday.
• The Franklin Township Historical Society’s annual “Old Fashioned Christmas” event will not take place in person this year, but an online version with the usual holiday histories, stories, music, and other aspects of the event will be available for free to be viewed by all. The Web link for the online version of the Old Fashioned Christmas will be posted in early December on the Franklin Township Historical Society’s Facebook page and also on the Society’s website, FTHS.org.
• Snips Salon in Irvington will be honoring their founders, Anthony Lineberry and Kevin Edwards, by asking for a $10 donation in their honor, with proceeds going to Downey Avenue Performing Arts and Indy Feral. Both died in October, and left a big hole in many people’s hearts. They will light an LED candle in the shop for every donation. To donate, mail to 5731 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46219, make a donation in person (call 317-356-2611 ahead of time to see if they are open), or call in your donation to the same number. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 24.
• Got the winter blues? Tropical Garfield opens Nov. 27 and runs through Dec. 31. Hours are Mon.-Sat. 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sun. 1-5 p.m. at Garfield Park Conservatory, 2505 Conservatory Dr. Tickets are available online for only $4 each at www.garfieldgardensconservatory.org. Garfield Park will offer timed tours (no walk-ins), and visitors will be required to wear face masks and practice social distancing. The poinsettia displays, lights, and the warmth of the conservatory are uplifting!
• The Annual Circle of Lights tree lighting will be held on Friday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. There will be no in-person event, and residents are asked to watch the tree lighting on WTHR-13 live. In addition, starting on Nov. 28, “Shining a Light” — a production that projects images and video onto buildings around the Circle, will present a holiday presentation at 6:30 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m. each night throughout the season. It should be beautiful!
• The Weekly View office will be closed for Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, and on Nov. 27 so we can have some time with family. We ladies of the View are very thankful for all our readers, who have stuck with us through this crazy year.
