INDIANAPOLIS — Holidays past and present will share time in Indiana Landmarks’ upcoming free online program about the glory days of the L.S. Ayres department store at the corner of Meridian and Washington streets in Indianapolis. Three local men with deep connections to L.S. Ayres and its landmark downtown location will discuss the store’s history and look at recent efforts to restore the iconic bronze Ayres Clock and Cherub. The online talk will start at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 3.
Speakers include Ken Turchi, author of L.S. Ayres and Company: The Store at the Crossroads of America; Dan Evans, Jr., whose father worked at Ayres from 1948 to 1976, rising through the ranks from personnel staff to president and CEO; and Paul Smith, project manager for the Ayres Clock restoration.
The talk is free with RSVP. Reserve your spot at indianalandmarks.org/the-magic-of-ayres, or by calling 317-639-4534.
