Congratulations to the Los Angeles Dodgers on their World Series over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Dodgers last won a series title in 1988. This was a strange year for all sports but the Dodgers came through for Major League Baseball.
This also means that the City of Angels has two big league sports champs as the Lakers were the National Basketball League champions. Maybe LA should advertise itself as the “City of Champions.” Los Angeles has two teams in every major sport. The Dodgers and the Angels in baseball, The Lakers and Clippers in basketball, and the Rams and Chargers in football.
California has had an incredibly rough way to go this year so a bit of good news is welcome. Good luck to the Rams in their quest for Super Bowl glory.
Honda Drops Two-Seater
You may have heard that Mario Andretti had been dropped by Honda in the NTT IndyCar Series two-seater program. It turns out that Mario was not fired but after 25 years Honda is dropping its sponsorship of the program. Honda will still supply engines to the racing series. IndyCar is looking for a new sponsor for the program.
Colts Tame the Lions
Last Sunday the Horseshoe took on the Lions in Detroit for what was arguably their best game of the season so far. As usual the Colts started slowly. The Lions blocked a punt and scored a touchdown to take a 10 -3 lead. However, The Colts got down to business barter and never let up. Nyheim Hines was the big story, coming out the backfield twice to grab Philip Rivers passes for touchdowns. His acrobatic somersaults in the end zone in celebration were on every highlight reel over the weekend.
In the second half, running back Jordan Wilkins came off the bench and gained 80 yards on 20 carries and scored his first rushing touchdown of the season. I don’t know why they don’t use him more. He is always productive when he is in the lineup.
Defensively Darius Leonard was back and it showed. They shut down the Lion’s running game and gave Matthew Stafford, the Detroit quarterback fits. His frustration showed. In the fourth quarter Kenny Moore II intercepted a Stafford thrown and took it back for a pic-six to seal the deal.
Now the Colts are facing the toughest part of the schedule. They play the Baltimore Ravens at Baltimore. This is a meaningful game. The Ravens are a contender with an explosive offense and a down and dirty defense. So good luck to the Horseshoe.
