IRVINGTON — Greater Irvington II: Architecture, People and Places in the Indianapolis Eastside by Paul Diebold, the expanded second edition, will be available from the Bona Thompson Center and on Amazon in December.
Nearly twenty-five years ago, a unique history of Irvington, Indiana, told through the lens of the changing architecture of this first Indianapolis suburb was created by Irvington-based author and historian Paul Diebold. His serious, but entertaining, study took a careful look at the history, people, and architecture of one of Indianapolis’ most distinctive neighborhoods. In the intervening ears, legions of Irvington fans and residents have added a copy of this illustrated history to their personal libraries.
Greater Irvington II is an updated and expanded version of Diebold’s original book. It still focuses on the growth of this neighborhood and the people who created it. The new edition features offers modern history, new details about Indianapolis’ first planned suburb, newly discovered historic photographs and modern images detailing the architectural history of Irvington. It includes 280 pages, discussions of over 200 houses and 278 illustrations. The architectural glossary, bibliography and index have all been expanded.
