33rd Annual FIESTA Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — FIESTA Indianapolis will provide a celebration of Latino culture for the 33rd year on Saturday, September 21, from noon to 10 p.m. on the American Legion Mall. FIESTA Indianapolis is a fundraiser for the many programs offered by its organizer, La Plaza.
The 10-hour event will feature a main stage with music and dance performances, food booths featuring Latin American and Tex-Mex cuisine from many area restaurants, a beer tent, information booths, a health and wellness fair, and many interactive activities for children and families. Admission to FIESTA Indianapolis is free.
New this year is the Passport to the Americas activity for young people who will be given passports to take to various booths representing individual countries in the Americas and Spain. At the booths they will learn about the history and culture of each country and receive stamps in their passports.
Other children’s activities will include McDonald’s FiestaTour®, Radio Disney, Colts Play 60, Indy Eleven Soccer, and face painting. Also new this year is the Arts Fair displaying work by established and emerging Latino artists. The art will be on display and for sale in a special arts section on the grounds of FIESTA Indianapolis.
Music and dance performances begin on the stage at noon. Performing groups include Anderson Ballet Folklórico Ensamble, Ipanema Group (Samba and Bossa Nova), FlamencOle, Mariachi Azteca and many more. For a performance schedule, visit www.laplaza-indy.org.
Emcees for the opening ceremony at 2 p.m. will be WRTV Channel 6 Reporter Rafael Sanchez and Telemundo Indy Reporter Milena Tinoco. The ceremony will include a parade of flags and brief remarks from the stage.
La Plaza’s mission is to strengthen central Indiana by advocating and preparing Latino students for educational success and by connecting Latino families to health and social services.
