IRVINGTON — The Irvington Community Council has announced the recipients of the 2020 Founder’s Awards. Since 2011, the awards have recognized the contributions of individuals, organizations, and businesses that have enhanced the quality of life in Irvington. The awards are presented the week of the Historic Irvington Halloween Festival, which will be held Oct. 24-31 this year.
Scott Irons, owner of Indy Cycle Specialist, has been honored for his 27 years of keeping Irvington rolling and promoting a healthy biking lifestyle. Indy Cycle Specialist also supports the beloved Zombie Bike Ride during the Halloween Festival week, and many other neighborhood events.
Jockamo’s Upper Crust Pizza owners Nancy Duncan, Mick McGrath, and Bob and Laura Stark will be honored for their 13 years of supporting local artists in their restaurant, and tireless dedication to the Irvington Community.
For their dedication to preserving the history and culture of Irvington, including their work with the Irvington Historical Society and their preservation of the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, the Council honors Steve and Sue Barnett.
For bringing beauty to homes and public spaces in Irvington, and her dedication to keeping Irvington a community of artists, Laura Hildreth will receive a Founder’s Award. Laura is also the artist responsible for the beautiful calligraphy and artwork on the Founder’s Award each year.
The year’s awards are tentatively scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center. Due to COVID-19, plans may change.
Past recipients of the Founder’s Award include Jan DeFerbrache (Gaia Works), Bookmamas, The Legend, Ed Myers (Irvington Garden Club, Kile Oak), Marty Powell, The Weekly View, Snips Salon, Dawn Briggs, and many more notables in Irvington.
