• The Auxiliary to Community Hospital East will sponsor a $5 Masquerade Jewelry & Accessories fundraising sale Monday, March 16 from 7-10 p.m., Tuesday, March 17 from 7 a.m.-9 p.m., and Wednesday, March 18 from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. The sale will be in the Community Hospital East Main Lobby, 1500 N. Ritter Ave. Proceeds benefit hospital programs and services. For more information, please call Volunteer Services at 317-355-5120.
• The Lawlers, farmers and owners of Healthy Harvest Market, 2828 E. 10th St., recently got a very nice Mike Rowe (“Dirty Jobs”) visit that has gone “viral” on social media. The market is now open and has a cafe with all sorts of treats. There’s also a new urban gardening section with bulk seeds, chicken feed, poultry supplies, and lots more. You can also order plants from them. Check it out!
• Neighborhood association meetings are a good way to meet others in your community that want to make a difference. Upcoming meetings include: Spades Park, Monday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Spades Park Library (1801 Nowland Ave.); Little Flower, Tuesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church (4720 E. 13th St.); Windsor Park, Wednesday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Spades Park Library; Emerson Heights, Thursday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Eastside Community Baptist Church (438 Wallace Ave.).
• Indy DPW recently kicked off its spring litter clean-ups around the city, teaming up with Keys to Work, an organization that helps ex-offenders re-enter the workforce. They’ve been picking up roadside litter in prominent locations. Thank you to everyone who has been putting in extra effort to make Indianapolis a little nicer.
• The Beech Grove Library, 1102 Main St., invites school-aged children who are beginning or reluctant readers to a Paws to Read program on Monay, March 16 at 6 p.m. Kids will be able to read to a non-judgemental registered therapy dog who loves to listen to stories. Call the branch at 317-275-4560 to register for this limited-space program.
• Congratulations to Growing Places Indy, which recently announced that it is a finalist for the Indianapolis LISC Love Thy Neighborhood Awards in the Livability category. Growing Places Indy hosts a lot of programs, including a yoga series, summer apprenticeship programs, workshops, and tours of their Urban Farms locations in Cottage Home, White River State Park, and at the Boner Fitness and Learning Center behind Arsenal Tech high school. They also sponsor the Winter Farmers Market every Saturday through April at 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Circle City Industrial Complex, 1125 Brookside Ave. on the near eastside.
• McGinley’s Golden Ace will hold its blowout St. Patrick’s Day celebration Friday, March 13 & 14 beginning at 2:30 p.m. Great Irish music, dancing, beer, and a million people will be under the big tent. They’ll repeat it on Tuesday, March 17 beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Golden Ace is the oldest Irish bar in Indianapolis, and is located at 2533 E. Washington St.
