• Spring Forward for Daylight Saving Time in the wee hours of Sunday, March 8. While you’re at it, this is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke/CO2 detectors at home.
• The Beech Grove Historical Society will hold their March meeting on Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Beech Grove Branch Library, 1102 Main St., in the basement meeting room. They will continue the discussion started last month of remembering Main Street businesses. The public is welcome to attend and share their memories as well.
• The 2020 James Beard Award nominees have been announced, and a few locals made it to the semi-finals. They include Martha Hoover of Cafe Patachou for Outstanding Restaurateur, Beholder for Outstanding Wine Program, Love Handle for Outstanding Hospitality, and Abbie Merriss of Bluebeard for Best Chef in the Great Lakes Region. Merriss is also the mastermind behind the Kan-Kan restaurant soon to open in Windsor Park.
• The Auxiliary to Community Hospital East will sponsor a $5 Masquerade Jewelry & Accessories fundraising sale on Monday, March 16 from 7 p.m. – 10 .pm.; Tuesday, March 17, 7 a.m – 9 p.m; and Wednesday, March 18, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. The sale will be held in the Community Hospital East Main Lobby, 1500 N. • Adults are invited to a free lineage research workshop on Monday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at the Beech Grove library, 1102 Main St. The workshop will be given by representatives from the Samuel Bryan Chapter of the D.A.R. who will provide assistance with online research tools using Ancestry.com.
• A Olympus Has Fallen Drag and Dance performance will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 8 p.m. at the Irvington Lodge, 5515 E. Washington St. This is an 18+ event. • The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off Friday, March 13 at 11:30 a.m. downtown and will feature lots of bands, leprechauns, and Hibernian fun! The Black Hat Society of Irvington woodland witches will be marching, so definitely stake a claim out on the parade route downtown to see them!
• First Friday events help start March off with a bang! The Harrison Center is teaming up with Indiana Humanities to present “We Wait,” a show of screenprint portraits of women who are waiting. It will also be an open studio night, with 30 or more artists and their workspaces open. The Harrison is on the corner of Delaware and 16th St. Circle City Industrial Complex hosts open studios on Friday, March 6 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday from noon-4 p.m. The complex features dozens of artists, plus businesses, a brewery, and a distillery. The CCIC is located at 1125 Brookside Ave.
