IRVINGTON — The Irvington Community Council and the Historic Irvington Halloween Festival recently announced the recipients of the 2019 Founder’s Awards. Since 2011, the awards have recognized the individuals, businesses, and organizations that make a significant contribution to the overall quality of life in Irvington. The awards are presented during the Historic Irvington Halloween Festival.
For their passion in promoting a free and local press, 10 years of excellence in reporting, and for giving the east side of Indianapolis a spotlight every week, the Council will honor Paula Nicewanger, Ethel Winslow, and Judy Crawford of the Weekly View.
For her 27 years of operating a small business, for helping to make Irvington a destination, for her support of Irvington, and for operating the Gaia Works Food Pantry for underserved seniors, the Council will honor Jan DeFerbrache and the Magic Candle.
For their support of many Irvington organizations, including the Council, Irvington Historic Society, the Benton House and others, the Council will honor Kent Hankins and Bill Aughe.
For operating a small business for four years, for their support of Irvington and passionate support for residential and business redevelopment in Irvington, the Council will honor Mike and Mary Lee Spilbeler and the Irvington Picture Frame Company.
This year’s awards will be presented Sunday, October 20 at 2 p.m. at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center. The recipients will receive a personalized award from Irvington artist Laura Hildreth.
