LAWRENCE — Any building owner or tenant with commercial space in the Lawrence Redevelopment area is eligble to apply for the 2013-14 Commercial Façade and Property Rehabilitation Grant Program. The program is funded by the City of Lawrence through the Lawrence Redevelopment Commission. This program is administered by the Lawrence Community Development Corporation under contract with the Commission.
All applications from building tenants require the signature of the building owner. Eligible projects and property improvements include: exterior re-facing of walls and parapets; building-mounted signage; window awnings; exterior lighting and fixtures; improvements to front-door access for persons with disabilities; front yard improvements that include landscaping, fencing, and signage.
The program will fund a percentage of the total project costs. The maximum grant amount is $25,000, however, it is expected that most grant awards will be smaller. The Redevelopment Commission does not issue grant funds directly to award recipients.
The Building Application Form is to be completed by each building owner or tenant requesting a façade grant and then returned to NNDC along with the required supplementary application documents (listed on Building Application Form). Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis by Lawrence CDC until the available funds are committed. Applications will be accepted from until at least June 2014.
The committee is expected to award grants with priority consideration given to projects that will achieve the highest impact on the property being improved, as well as the neighborhood and community at large.
