IRVINGTON — Throughout the past 18 years, those attending the garden club’s annual garden tours have had the opportunity to walk shaded paths, witness the flashing shadows of overhead branches on the ground and maybe, if one was nearby, sit on a garden bench. This year’s tour is scheduled for Sun., June 24, 1-5 p.m., and tickets are still only $10 (children under 14 are admitted free of charge). Tickets for the tour may be purchased the day of the tour at the Benton House Historic Garden, 312 South Downey Avenue or in advance at Ace Hardware or Antique Mall of Irvington.
One of the stops on the tour is a new-ish resident of Irvington Terrace, Tres Gatos (Three Cats) Farm & Community Garden. Other stops will feature fountains, plant-filled ponds, shade gardens, gardens that attract butterflies and bees, and much more. There is always a lot of inspiration to be found in the creative energy Irvingtonians put into their garden spaces.
Take a break from the tour by visiting the Irvington United Methodist Church Strawberry Festival at 30 N. Audubon from 1:30-4:00 p.m. followed by a patriotic concert in the church Sanctuary at 4:30 p.m. Get a stacked high strawberry shortcake for only $5, and let the kids run on the lawn, and enter a raffle for a beautiful quilt by Anna Circle. Tickets to the Garden Tour will be available at the church from 1-4 p.m.
