New Year — New Name!

Four years, one hundred and ninety-two issues, and countless words and pictures. There have been many late nights and early mornings, plus last minute changes and general craziness involved in each and every edition of this newspaper. Now, as we come up on our fifth year of publication, we are making some changes — first and foremost, you are now reading the Weekly View, a publication of the Eastside Voice Community Newspaper News Media, Inc.

For the past four years, we’ve grown and expanded the area we serve with positive community news. The response from readers and advertisers has been incredible, and we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the support we’ve received. By late 2012, we distributed thousands of papers at over 500 locations in 24 zip codes in the metropolitan Indianapolis area, making us one of the most widely read newspapers around. While others believe that newspapers are dead or dying, we don’t see much evidence to support that notion. As a matter of fact, we’ve seen readership grow.

When we started this newspaper, we took a great leap of faith — that there were readers out there thirsty for positive news stories, and advertisers that would see the value of a quality print publication. We priced our ads fairly, and offered great customer service to all our advertisers. We treat people — our readers, our advertisers, and our service providers — according to the Golden Rule. You know the rule: Treat others as you would want to be treated.

To better reflect the growth in our service area, we made the big decision to change the name to the Weekly View. It wasn’t easy, and we worried some about how a change might be perceived by our readers. We want to stress that we are very proud to be an eastside business. We all live in the community, shop in the stores, and believe that there are great days ahead for the Indianapolis metropolitan area.

Nothing else is changing except the name. We still have the best feature columnists around, and correspondents and contributors who help us tell the stories that should be told. The Weekly View continues to have challenging puzzles, comics, and editorials.

We are also building a new Web site that will be more user-friendly. We’ve been working with Brandon McDonald, a local Web designer and graphic artist, to create a new Web site which we will be launching next week. Stay tuned for the cool,  updated features. Please be patient with us newbies, as we want to make sure that everything works right.

Now, on to the New Year!
