INDIANAPOLIS — Mayor Steve Collier and Lawrence Fire Chief Dino Batalis unveiled the newest addition to the Lawrence Fire Department’s fleet at a dedication ceremony March 15 at Station 38. After Batalis’ opening remarks, Mayor Collier called dispatch and Ladder 38 was officially placed into service.
This new ladder replaces an apparatus that has been in service since 2002. This particular ladder has been the busiest ladder in Marion County for 2016. The new addition is long overdue and much needed. The equipment is state of the art and will give Lawrence firefighters more of an edge when facing emergency situations.
Shortly after, Chaplain Mel Keaton blessed and read a Psalm for safety of the men and women who will use the new fire apparatus. Then, firefighters and EMS pushed the new ladder truck into its new home.
“My thanks goes to Mayor Collier and City Controller Jason Fenwick for their continued support of the Lawrence Fire Department and public safety in general,” said Chief Batalis. “This new ladders will allow our firefighters to respond safely and quickly to help protect lives and property in Lawrence,” he added.
