With the departure of Tom Crean, Indiana University is on the hunt for a new coach. With that in mind, the athletic department has hired Parker Executive Search out of Atlanta to locate some possible candidates for consideration. Parker specializes in finding basketball coaches for college programs, having worked with Missouri, Notre Dame, Iowa State, and Vanderbilt among its increasing client list. They charge $60,000 for their services. IU athletic director Fred Glass is still feeling a lot of heat from fans and alumni to find a coach that will make the team a consistent winner.
IU used Parker once before and they provided Kelvin Sampson for the job. We know how devastating that hire was for the program.
There was a hot rumor that UCLA coach and former Hoosier All American Steve Alford had been offered a 7 year, $31 million deal but that proved to be false news. Alford’s name pops up every time there is a coaching change in Bloomington.
Congrats to the Bulldogs and Boilermakers
As of this writing the Purdue Boilermakers and the Butler Bulldogs are in the Sweet Sixteen. So the state is well represented in the 2017 version of March Madness. Thursday, March 23rd at Kansas, number 4 seeded Purdue will take on the number 1 seeded Kansas Jayhawkers. On Friday, March 24th, number 4 seeded Butler will face the number 1 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels. Some really exciting college hoops coming up for all the fans of Hoosier Hysteria.
More Player Additions for the Colts
Colts GM Greg Ballard has been quietly making some positive moves to improve the Horseshoe roster. The latest signing is Kamar Aiken from the Baltimore Ravens. Aiken is 6’ 2’” and 215 pounds. He will most likely line up in the slot. Linebacker Sean Spicier has been signed from the Titans to given some depth to the inside position. The team also resigned nickel cornerback Darius Butler. Butler has been a stalwart in the Colts secondary the last several years. Veteran nose tackle Al Woods also has been signed from Tennessee. The 6’ 4” 305 pounder has played for the Titans his last three years in the league.
