• It’s the last weekend for Calder, the Musical at IndyFringe. In last week’s review, we forgot to mention Dustin Klein, Klein & Alvarez Productions who is the co-creator with Tom Alvarez, as well as its composer. He is also the show’s music director and keyboard player.
• N. Pennsylvania Street, from Vermont to New York will be closed until Thurs., Feb. 16. Follow the detour signs.
• EclecticPond will present the World Premiere of Black Maria, an original piece by Bennett Ayres Feb. 16-26 at the Wheeler Arts Center, 1035 Sanders St. The show takes place in Indianapolis in 1910, and familiar Indiana locations paint a vivid, original period piece that provides a timely narrative of police brutality against minorities. • The City of Greenfield recently was awarded a $500,000 Main Street Revitalization Program grant for facade renovations of historic buildings downtown. The city, along with building owners and donors, provided match funds. Some of the renovation sites will be the Chamber Building, Hancock County Art Gallery, Carnegies Restaurant, and several more. Construction will begin in June of this year and be completed by January, 2018.
• Want to find out more about the opiod overdose epidemic? Community Health Network will over Overdose Education and Reversal Training with Narcan on Feb. 16 from 6-8 p.m. at Beech Grove “Our Place,” 901 Alton St. You will receive training on how to administer Narcan and receive a free overdose kit while supplies last. Pre-registration is not necessary. You must attend the entire session to be eligible for a free kit.
• The Walker Career Center and Warren Central High School are holding the 2017 Careerfest and Showcase on Feb. 23 from 6:00-7:30 p.m., at the school, 9500 E. 16th St. All parents and students are welcome to this informational festival about the great things happening at Warren Central and Walker Career Center.
• With all the crazy weather, potholes are blooming all over the city. If you see (or worse, hit) one of those bone-rattlers, please report it to the Mayor’s Action Center (phone 317-327-4622) at http://maps.indy.gov/RequestIndy/ and view the map of potholes at http://maps.indy.gov/IndyPotholeViewer/
• The 2017 Indy Women’s Expo has put together a fabulous lineup of speakers, vendors and demonstrations designed to inspire, pamper and empower women. The show takes place Feb. 11, and Feb. 12, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. each day. Admission is $8 online and $10 at the door. • Supporting local businesses is more important now than ever before. Independent stores and service providers in Central Indiana are job creators, taxpayers, and care about our neighborhoods. Too many are hanging on by a thread, losing market share to massive online retailers and mega-corporations, chain restaurants and the like. Spending your money with the small (but mighty!) folks who advertise on our pages helps show support for those businesses, and for us as well!
