From The Indianapolis Star, Monday, January 29: Indianapolis Jews, along with Jews throughout Indiana, are participating in a “Week of Mercy” that has been declared among the American Jewish community in observance of the first anniversary of President Wilson’s proclamation setting aside a day which Americans should turn their thoughts toward the suffering abroad. The week will be marked by Jews in America to add to the $10,000,000 (2016: $190,597,944) fund that is being sought in 1917 for the relief of Jewish war suffers. Samuel E. Rauh is chairman of the Indiana committee in charge of the collection of funds for the cause. No special meetings have been arranged in connection with the observance this week, but individuals and Jewish societies are expected to make special contributions to the fund. The observance began Saturday and will continue until February 4.
