From The Indianapolis Times, Tuesday, May 30, 1916: The Indianapolis School Board will call the city’s architects and businessmen together to develop building and financing plans to alleviate the crowded conditions in the schools. The curriculum of the Indianapolis public schools has a wide reputation, but the physical property has fallen behind. The recent acquisition of the Arsenal Technical grounds will be the center of future high school plans. The old Arsenal buildings, with proper repairs, offers an excellent place for shop work. School authorities estimate that shop work can be given to 3,000 to 4,000 pupils at the site. This means Shortridge High School can be abandoned for manual training and students there will be given only academic courses. All the shop work will then be done at Emmerich Manual Training and Arsenal Technical High Schools.
