Arts Briefs: March 22-29

Hot Glass Infusion Weekend March 23-24

INDIANAPOLIS Indiana Glass Arts Alliance (IGAA) and GRT Glass Design Studio will host the annual Hot Glass Infusion Weekend March 23 from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and March 24 from noon – 5 p.m. The free event will take place at GRT Glass Design Studio, 6400 Brookville Rd. For directions to GRT Hot Glass Studio, call (317) 353-6369 or visit www.grtglassdesign.com
A family-friendly event, Hot Glass Infusion Weekend brings together Indiana’s top glass artists – hot glass workers, whose work is created on blow pipes and in furnaces; flameworkers, whose craft focuses on glass beads, marbles and smaller ornate objects made with torches; and slump glassmakers and fused glassmakers, who create their work from larger pieces of partially melted glass.
IGAA’s Hot Glass Infusion Weekend includes all-day concurrent demonstrations of flameworking and glassblowing. There is an exhibition of fine art pieces by the demonstrating artists and a glass shop featuring affordable glass items. Artists bring pieces of their work for sale, and pieces made during the event are auctioned at regular intervals. Visitors will be able to bid, during live auctions, on artwork created throughout the day by demonstrating artists. In addition to demonstrations, guests will be able to try their hand at glassmaking.
