100 Years Ago This Week: March 4-10

From The Indianapolis Star, Tuesday, March 7: Hoosiers go to the polls today in the first state-wide primary in Indiana’s political history. Ballots for Republican, Democratic, and Progressive parties will be available in every precinct across the state, and every member of each party is entitled to a vote if required residential qualifications are met. Voters can only vote for candidates in the party of their choice. Mixed ticket voting is not permissible. Voters will nominate candidates for governor, United States senator, Congressmen, state representative, state senator, and local county offices for November’s election. Former Vice President and Indiana U. S. Senator Charles W. Fairbanks’ name will be on each Republican ballot as the choice of Indiana Republicans for president of the United States and Woodrow Wilson’s name will appear on each Democratic ballot as the choice for President.
