Applause!: Feb. 19-26

• WFYI’s Speak up phone, previously located on the Circle, is at the East Washington Library (2822 E. Washington St.) through the end of the month. WFYI is spending time in Indianapolis’ most distressed neighborhoods, collecting thoughts and ideas from residents. Some of the company’s favorite responses will be posted on 90.1 FM and wfyi.org. People who pick up the phone will hear the prompt and then have four minutes to record a response to the question we’re asking: “City officials have labeled your neighborhood as having some of Indy’s highest rates of violent crime and economic hardship. But what’s your reality? What’s the one word you’d use to describe your neighborhood, and why?”
• You definitely want to check out the play Killer Joe Feb. 19-March 5 at Theatre on the Square, 627 Mass Ave. It’s a story about a good, old-fashioned family get together full of crime, lust, and fried chicken. This is an adults-only show, but looks good. Tickets are available for Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 5 p.m. Visit www.tots.org for more information and ticket prices.
• Mother Nature has been kind, for the most part, to Indiana this year (perhaps trying to make it up to us for the past couple of winters?). However, Valentine’s weekend brought some sideways winds and snow. Thanks to the hard-working folks at DPW and INDOT for trying to keep up, and all those great neighbors who cleared sidewalks and driveways.
