St. Patrick’s Day is a a special holiday in the hearts of Hoosiers. With a long history of Irish settlement, and a love of tradition, Indianapolis is a great place to celebrate the wearin’ of the green.
On March 14 at the Downtown Canal, go see the greenin’ of the canal from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The city’s 33rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade steps off March 15 at 11:30 a.m. at North St., south on Pennsylvania, down to Ohio, and north on Meridian until Vermont St. There is a festival at the end of the parade, featuring the talents of Eunan McIntyre, Highland Reign and the Kreelers, starting at about 1 p.m.
Speaking of Eunan McIntyre, the Donegal singer-songwriter will be in at two eastside Indianapolis pubs, playing his very personal and authentic brand of Celtic music at Manley’s Irish Mutt, 7041 E. 10th St., at 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He’ll also be performing at McGinley’s Golden Ace at 12:30 on Friday, at 3 on Saturday, and noon on Sunday. If you haven’t had a chance to hear this great musician, this is a good time to see him live and in person and find out for yourself how good he is.
Irish music from Wild Eye Rose, Mike Barthel, Blue Collar Blue Grass, and Potato Arms will be in the big tent at the Irish Mutt, as well as inside. Local bagpipers, folk singers, and much more will be going on from 11 a.m. on all three days. Join in the fun at the Mutt.
