INDIANAPOLIS — Recently, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (IMPO) presented a check for $35,507,485 to the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW). The funds will be used to help build bridges, roundabouts, trails and other enhancements in Indianapolis.
As part of an annual funding process, Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) engineers submitted projects for consideration by the IMPO, which is responsible for planning and programming regional transportation funds in the eight-county Central Indiana region.
Among the projects selected for funding is a new separated pedestrian crossing over 86th Street for Monon Trail users in the Nora area. Also receiving funding is a Nickel Plate Trail bridge over 82nd Street. Last year, the IMPO also approved funding for a Nickel Plate Trail bridge over Keystone Avenue.
Additional funds were carved out for rehabbing the Raymond St. bridge over Bean Creek, Bike Share expansions, and an Eagle Creek Greenway expansion.
Indianapolis will also install four cloud-based Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS). These systems will allow the Department to monitor, diagnose, and modify traffic signals remotely along the corridor. They will be installed on N. Post Rd. from 10th to 36th, S. Emerson from County Line Rd. to Victory Dr., S. Madison from County Line Rd. to Mills Ave., and N. Meridian from 64th. to 93rd.
They will also fund the Knozone Awareness Program.
