IRVINGTON — The Benton House Historic Garden, 312 South
Downey Ave., has been cited as one of the top five gardens in Indianapolis by TRIP ADVISOR.
The unique garden highlights plants that were in cultivation over 400 years ago. Others were introduced to gardeners in the 1700s. Most, however date to the 1800s.
Within the garden are significant numbers of heirloom daffodils, tulips and minor bulbs. The garden also displays antique iris, daylilies and hosta common to our great grandmothers.
Other local gardens within the top five include the Zoo’s White River Gardens, the Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Gardens, White River State Park, and Holcomb Garden.
The Benton House Historic Garden is a beautification project of the Irvington Garden Club.
