LAWRENCE — The Museum of 20th Century Warfare (M20CW) at Fort Harrison State Park will have a temporary display concerning the Battle of the Bulge of WWII from Dec. 13 to Jan. 25. The display features over 40 “day boards” with maps showing the progression of the front lines, descriptions of battle conditions, and units involved along with any highlights that took place that day as well as artifacts, models and an 18 foot long diorama. The display will be in building 701 of the Historic Camp Glenn area of Fort Harrison State Park and is available for viewing Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. Signs will be in place through the park to direct visitors to the building.
Also each Saturday there will be a lecture at 1 p.m. covering one aspect of the larger battle. These will be presented in the Visitors Center conference room. The schedule is as follows:
• Dec. 14 – The 106th Infantry Division
• Dec. 21 – The Battle of the Twin Villages
• Dec. 28 - The Battle of Dom Butenbach
• Jan. 11 – The Battle of Verdenne
• Jan. 18 – The 99th Infantry Division
• Jan. 25 – Nordwind; The Last German Attack in the West
A battle demonstration with reenactors representing Allied and Axis forces will take place on Saturday, Jan. 4 in the park from 9 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. (The main museum building 711 is closed for the winter). There is no charge for the display, lectures or demonstration however normal state park gate fees apply. For cars, the fee is $7 per car. The location is at 6000 N. Post Rd.
