Applause!: Nov. 22-28

• The Benton House Holiday Bazaar will be held on Friday, Nov. 22 from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Over 30 vendors will be there to offer handcrafted items. Saturday, there will be outdoor vendors. Please bring an unwrapped new toy to donate in honor of Steve Nicewanger, the Benton House’s Santa for many years and board member.
• Fort Harrison State Park will be closed to the public Dec. 2 and 3 in order for hunters to cull the deer population. Special permits for hunting are issued to control the deer population so that they do not overwhelm the ecosystem.
• A big shout-out to Shepherd Community Center on the east side for opening a substation on the property for IMPD officers. Officers will have access to the facilities, including restrooms, 24 hours a day so they have a quiet place to catch up on paperwork.
• The Wes Montgomery Park Basketball Pavilion is now open! The court includes a roof covering, bleachers, and lighting for special events. The park is located at 3501 N. Hawthorne and is open dawn to dusk.
• Cumberland Parks Department is hosting a Christmas Card Crafting event for Cumberland’s Nursing Home residents on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. at Cumberland First Baptist Church, 116 S. Muessing. Go and make 5 x 7 cards to bring a little hope and holiday joy. Admission is free.
• “A Christmas Carol: The Musical” will be featured Dec. 5-8 at the Theatre at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. in Lawrence. Agape Theater company will present the show. The Dec. 7 show is sensory friendly. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children with a small service fee online at artsforlawrence.org/events
• The Children’s Museum, 3000 N. Meridian, always has great activities for kids during the holidays. Whimsical WinterFaire is designed for kids under 5 with early access to the WinterSlide and more on Tuesday, Dec. 3 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tickets for nonmembers are $27.50 for youth, and $5.50 for an adult. • Make plans now to go downtown to the Circle of Lights ceremony on Friday, Nov. 29 starting at 6 p.m. There’s lots to do that evening, including a live show on Monument Circle. SPARK Holidays on the Circle will begin, with appearances from Santa within the northwest bollards of Monument Circle every Saturday and Sunday from 4-8 p.m. through Dec. 22.
• Franciscan Health will host a Movember Tailgate Party for men’s health month on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Guggman Haus Brewing Co. from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. They will offer free health screenings, food, sports, raffles, and prizes. The first 200 people to complete health screenings will receive a free meal ticket and $10 gift card to Guggman Haus. The company is located at 1701 Gent Ave.
