Indiana National Guard Leader to Retire

INDIANA — Major General R. Dale Lyles recently announced that he will retire from his role as Adjutant General. When Mike Braun takes office will appoint his successor.
Lyles has held the position since 2019, and over the years, the Indiana State Guard met its assigned federal missions, as well as responded to an increasing number of state and local missions. He also boosted recruitment effort for the Guard.
During peacetime, the Indiana National Guard is commanded by the governor, and assists local law enforcement agencies during emergencies. The Indiana National Guard is comprised of Army National Guard armories across the state and has training facilities at several locations. Their headquarters is at Stout Field on the west side of Indianapolis. Indiana has about 12,000 guard soldiers and airmen.
Lyles graduated from the Indiana Military Academy in 1994 and was awarded his commission. He has served for decades, including post-9/11 deployments to Bosnia and Afghanistan.
