INDIANAPOLIS — More than 900 pounds of medication were collected at Community Health Network sites of care for safe disposal on Saturday, Oct. 26. Five Community facilities served as drop off spots for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) sponsored National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The drop off sites included:
• Community Health Network MD Anderson Cancer Center North (375 lbs. collected)
• Community Hospital South (134 lbs. collected)
• Community Hospital East (60 lbs. collected)
• Community Howard Regional Health (215 lbs. collected)
• Community Hospital Anderson (117 lbs. collected)
Proper disposal of prescriptions and over-the-counter medications keeps homes and communities safer. It can also ensure that personal information on prescription bottles will not be used for identity theft and reduce the risk of intentional misuse of the medication.
Community caregivers collected a total of 900 pounds of medication during the four-hour Drug Take Back event. That weight is equivalent to two dumpsters.
